LODD - Chief Bill Matthews, Bassfield Fire Dept

A long-time veteran of the Bassfield Volunteer Fire Department, Bill Matthews, 73, died on the scene of a brush fire from a massive heart attack on Feb. 14.

Kurt Stevens, Myrtle Fire Department

It is with deep sorrow that we report the death of Myrtle Volunteer Firefighter and Mississippi Firefighters' Association member Kurt Stevens of Union County.  Kurt Stevens, age 18, was killed Tuesday afternoon, March 8, in a one vehicle accident on Hwy 30 in Union County which returning from Northeast Community College.

Arrangements for Kurt Stevens are as follows:
Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, from 5pm to 9 pm at United Funeral Home in New Albany.
Funeral will be Friday, March 11, 2pm at United Funeral Home in New Albany with burial being in the Glenfield Cemetery in New Albany.

Bryan Johnson, Lamar Co Firefighters Assoc.

Bryan Johnson with the Lamar Co. Firefighters Assoc. passed away Saturday, Jan 9, 2016.  He was a member of the MS Fire Fighter's Association.

Tommy Everett, Magee Fire Department

Tommy Everett, Lifetime Member of the MS Fire Fighters Assoc, died Thursday, Jan 7, 2016.  Tommy joined the Magee Volunteer Fire Department in 1950 and served as
an active member until 1998. He was the longest serving member in the
history of the fire department, which he led as chief from 1978-1998.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Chapel in Magee, MS, Saturday,
January 9 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First
Baptist Church of Magee, MS, Sunday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. with
interment at Magee City Cemetery.

LODD - Willie Ratliff, Clarksdale Fire Department

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the LODD of Willie Ratliff of Clarksdale Fire.  He was on duty when he collapsed.  He was 66 years old with 35 years of service.  He was due to retire on December 31.

Willie "Butch" Steele, Tilden New Salem Volunteer Fire Department

Willie "Butch" Steele, 71, of the Tilden New Salem Volunteer Fire Department in Itawamba County passed away November 28, 2015.  Chief Steele was Chief for 6 years, and a member for 9 years.  He was also a retired Army Col. of 30 years.  Chief Steele was a cherished and respected member of the Itawamba County Fire Services.  Chief Steele was diagnosed in July of this year with acute leukemia.  Arrangements will be forthcoming from family members.

Retired Chief Richard Hamric, New Albany Fire Department

Longtime firefighter and retired Chief Richard Hamric passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Chief Hamric, who's father was the first paid firefighter in New Albany, followed in his father's footsteps and eventually took over the helm before his retirement in 2008. Hamric was a longtime member of the MS Fire Fighter's Association prior to his retirement.

Tanner Lafayette, Calhoun City Fire Department

Tanner Easley Lafayette, 21, of Calhoun City died on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Grenada Lake Medical Center in Grenada.  He was born December 10, 1993 in Grenada, MS. He was the son of Randy Lafayette and Leigh Ann Easley Rimmer. He was a criminal justice student at Ole Miss, a member of Trinity Baptist Church, and a member of Calhoun City Fire Department.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with Bro. Chad O'Brian and Bro. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City, MS.  Pryor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Retired Chief Bob Farris, Reservoir Fire Department

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Retired Reservoir Fire
Chief Bob Farris. Chief Farris served the Reservoir FD for more than
20 years and retired in 1996. Visitation
is Sunday May 17, 2015 430-530 with a memorial service to follow at
530. This will all take place in the Reservoir Community Center at 2230
Spillway Rd
Brandon, MS 39047.
